Nexus One’s usable memory cut in one-half? Droid still has more.

  Share

An interesting story over at AndroidForums has surfaced. It looks like out of all that 512MBs on the specification canvas of the Nexus One, only 196MBs ar available to the user. Fixes wealthy person been promised, but nonentity more.

Over at the XDA forums, person got clench of Romaine Guy in an IRC channel, an Android developer that deeds for Google (NSDQ: GOOG), and posted their conversation. It seems like the issue with the Nexus One is connected to the kernel, and an upcoming update will be solving this issuance. Note: the conversation below took place in Jan, and the more recent update for the Nexus One was in Feb, although the problem has still not been addressed.

“ How can the Droid wealthy person 256MB of RAM but 230+MB memfree, piece the Nexus has 512MB RAM but only 218MB memfree?

<@romainguy_> there’s a limitation in the core

<@romainguy_> next update should springiness you C or 150 MB back

<coolbho3k> Very nice!!!”

For those who need brushing up on what a core is: “The kernel is the central component of most computing device operating systems(ie; Android) It is a bridge between applications and the actual information processing done at the computer hardware storey.”

Now there wealthy person been RAM hacks for the G1, and the MyTouch 3g, which add about 10Mbs of random-access memory taken from the GPU of the twist, but adding C-150 MBs of random-access memory doesn’t seem plausible. The devs over at XDA do some great things, but with a situation like this, it should be left for the people who get paid for it – Google developers themselves.

Even with the random-access memory missing, I can’t complain on the hurrying of my Nexus One, this affair flies! It is interesting, and somewhat funny how the Nexus One may wealthy person more RAM than the Motorola (NYSE: MOT) Droid, but the Droid actually has more RAM available to it. Surprise, sucka!

Hopefully Google gets this one right, and soon. The Nexus One has sufficiency issues already.
