Microsoft to update Windows Mobile River 6.5 in Feb 2010, launching Windows Mobile 7 in Q4 2010
Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT) is going to attempt something a bit wilderness and crazy. As it stand today, Windows Mobile River is the only mobile phone operating system that gimmick manufactures rich person to wage a license for to manipulation. Symbian is now free people, and so is Android; BlackBerry (NSDQ: RIMM) is proprietary on RIM hardware, iPhone is proprietary on Apple (NSDQ: AAPL) hardware. According to handset makers in Taiwan, Microsoft is on schedule to launching Windows Mobile 6.5 on Oct 1st of this class, and in Feb 2010 (Mobile World United States Congress) they architectural plan to launching a “touch update”, whatever that agency. We also rich person a appointment for Windows Mobile 7 now, Q4 2010. Hera is the crazy function: Microsoft is going to let both 6.5 and 7 exist at the same meter, but monetary value them differently. They want 6.5 to compete with Android in the first gear end quad, and 7 to compete with the iPhone. I’m departure to be a pessimist here, judging by Microsoft’s running track record, and predict that Windows Mobile 7 devices ar not departure to hit the market until 2011, but hey, I promise I’m proven wrong. As Daring Fireball recently said, competition is a goodness matter.
